UNDERWATER search teams recovered the body of a man from Booth Wood Reservoir after a car left the road and entered the water on Sunday evening.
A search operation by police and the fire service began following reports that a red car had left Oldham Road, on the moors between Halifax and Rochdale, and entered the water at around 8.20pm.
The vehicle was located under the water and the body of the deceased, believed to be the sole occupant of the car, was discovered yesterday morning.
Enquiries continue to determine the circumstances of what took place.
Sergeant Adrian Newman, of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West, said: "The underwater search team were on site this morning and first located the vehicle, before the body of the deceased was recovered at 11.55am. The family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
"We are continuing to appeal for anyone who has any information about the incident to contact police on 101, quoting 1536 of the 14/8."
Road closures were put in place from Junction 22 of the M62 to the turning circle at Rishworth School while the search operation was carried out.
