Deme bid derailed
Date published: 08 July 2008
LOCAL golfer Nick Deme yesterday blew his chances of qualifying for next week’s Open Championship.
Deme, Brookdale’s assistant professional, shot a seven-over-par 79 in the final local qualifier at Hillside.
And that left the 34-year-old nine shots off a qualifying place heading into today’s second and final round.
Kenilworth’s Jamie Elson headed the 96-strong field at the half-way stage after shooting a five-under-par 67.
The field at Hillside includes Frenchman Jean van de Velde who was runner up at the 1999 Open at Carnoustie.
