UMPIRE Jimmy Griffiths suffered a health scare after being taken ill during a match between Greenfield and Uppermill in the second division of the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth & District League.
An ambulance was called to Greenfield’s Ladhill Lane ground and Griffiths was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with fears he had a suspected heart attack.
But after being given an examination by medics it was discovered he was feeling unwell because of high blood pressure.
Umpires secretary Peter Darby said: “Jimmy was released the same night after being checked over.
“I have spoken to him and he assured me he will be all right to stand at this weekend’s games.”
