MANCHESTER City are ready to make a £2.5million move for Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
The 37-year-old American has been told by new Rovers manager Paul Ince his future in no longer secure.
That has alerted new City manager Mark Hughes who is keen to be reunited with his former player - also a possible target for Aston Villa.
City, meanwhile, are prepared to take a £5m loss on striker Georgios Samaras who is set to join Celtic for a knockdown price of £1m.
Samaras cost City £6m in January 2006 when he was captured from Dutch club Heerenveen.
FIRST-TEAM coach Mike Phelan has emerged as a leading contender to become Sir Alex Ferguson’s No 2 at Manchester United if Carlos Queiroz is named Portugal’s new boss.
The Reds are in action at Aberdeen tomorrow in a match to mark the 25th anniversary of Ferguson winning the European Cup Winners Cup with the Dons.
