Hughes happy with cup win

MARK HUGHES was satisfied with his first competitive match as Manchester City manager after they last night triumphed 2-0 at Faroe Islands part-timers EB/Streymur.
And that ought to make the ‘home’ second leg of their first qualifying round in the UEFA Cup - to be played at Barnsley - a formality.
Goals in the opening half-hour from Martin Petrov and Dietmar Hamann secured victory and Hughes declared: “Overall I was pleased. You are never quite sure what you are going to come up against in these games, but we had two fantastic strikes and created good chances.”
UNITED left last night for their four-match tour of Africa without a host of top players.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Owen Hargreaves, Louis Saha and Ji-Sung Park are all injured while Edwin van der Sar, Nani and Patrice Evra are not included as they were involved in Euro 2008.
Anderson and Dong Fangzhou are also omitted as they are on Olympic Games duty with Brazil and China respectively.
United’s 21-strong squad includes young players Ben Amos, Jonny Evans, Danny Simpson, Chris Eagles, Darron Gibson, Lee Martin and Fraizer Campbell.
