Ferdinand poised for Pirates clash

SIR Alex Ferguson is keen for Rio Ferdinand to play some part in Manchester United’s Vodacom Challenge match against Orlando Pirates tomorrow.

Ferdinand was named in the team for Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs after missing the friendly with Aberdeen a week earlier.

However, the England defender suffered a back spasm just before kick–off and was not risked.

Michael Carrick, who is carrying a knock, could also be available to face the Pirates while Wes Brown, who replaced Ferdinand, is expected to recover from a gashed ankle sustained against Chiefs.

One bonus for Ferguson is captain Gary Neville’s recovery after a long absence through injury.

Neville played 60 minutes on Saturday after a first-half run–out at Aberdeen the previous week.

Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to confirm whether his future is at Old Trafford, with Real Madrid insisting they still expect him to move to the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo’s comments contradict those of Ferguson, who is adamant the winger will start next season in England after meeting him for clear-the-air talks in Portugal.

But Ronaldo, who is on holiday in America as he recovers from ankle surgery, claims he has still to make a firm decision on his future.
