Wilson books finals place

OLDHAM’S Graeme Wilson reached the finals of the £3,000 Moorside Bowls Classic with a 21-9 defeat of Sheffield’s Matt Bower.
But it was Bower who had the last laugh in the All-England Merit in Doncaster on Saturday when he collected the top prize of £1,000 with a 21-9 final defeat of Merseyside’s Terry Glover.
Wilson was a first-round casualty, 21-14 at the hands of North Lancs and Fylde’s Lyndon Carr, while Tonge’s Gary Ellis went out in round two, 21-20 against Derbyshire’s Steve Adams.
Other second-round results at Moorside were: Callum Wraight 21, Andrew Buckley 13; Glyn Storer 21, Alan Hodson 15; Lee Cavill 21, Gerwyn Davies 15.

TONGE’S Jimmy Derby won the Huntley Unionist Classic in Bury when he beat team-mate Gary Ellis 21-14 in the final.
Derby reached the final with a 21-14 defeat of Bury’s Barry Robinson, while Ellis saw off Rochdale’s Andrew Lowe 21-8.
Lowe defeated Tonge’s Darren Griffiths 21-12 in the quarter-finals.
