OLDHAM-BORN swimmer Sascha Kindred (pictured) struck gold for Great Britain at the Paralympics in Beijing.
The 30-year-old won the 200 metres individual medley for the third successive Paralympics.
Kindred, who lowered his own world and Paralympic record time for the event to two minutes 42.19 seconds, has now won a total of nine Paralympic medals, including five golds.
“To go faster than I’ve ever done tops it off. I’m ecstatic,” he said.
And later this week Kindred, now based in Hereford, will be aiming to take his medal tally into double figures when he goes for a third successive Paralympic gold in the 100m breaststroke.
Kindred, who suffers from cerebral palsy, is also hoping to win a medal in the 50m butterfly.
