CHADDERTON’S Richard Blakeman will be racing almost on his own doorstep tomorrow as the latest round of the British Supermoto Championship takes place on waste ground adjoining Manchester City’s Eastlands home.

And the 22-year-old self-employed tree surgeon will be seeking to pick up points to improve on his fifth place after eight of the 10 rounds.

Blakeman, who rides either a 590cc KTM or 613 KTM bike, also competes in the world championships and is currently lying joint 16th place having competed in Italy, Spain, Austria and Andorra.

Last year Blakeman finished seventh in both the European and British championships.

Blakeman is looking for sponsors because at the moment he has to fund his racing himself which costs between £30,000 and £40,000 each season.

The event at Eastlands is from 9am to 8pm and the cost of admission is £10. Under-12s are free.
