Over-50s’ big day out

Date published: 26 September 2008

THE lure of Lord’s has proved too great to resist for three members of the Lancashire Over-50s cricket team.

Skipper Alan Whiston (Crompton), Howard Lyons (Flowery Field) and Mike Ingham (Haslingden) are each flying back from warmer climes to represent the county in Sunday’s National Cup final at the home of cricket.

Skipper Whiston and Lyons are both, coincidentally, in Cyprus, while Ingham is currently in Tenerife.

Lancashire have travelled far afield, including Jersey, on their way to the final in which they will play Oxfordshire, starting at 11am.

The rest of the Lancashire team is: John Punchard, vice-captain (Middleton), Gary Crossley (Uppermill), Mike Davies (Edgeworth), Dave Bartholomew (St Anne’s), Ian Howarth (East Lancs), Tony Potter (Clifton), Chris Dearden (Littleborough), Glen Bullock (Denton).

Hollinwood’s Stuart Meredith is 12th man, while Royton’s Barry Woodward is a travelling reserve, having played in the semi-final victory over Somerset.
