MANCHESTER United have been dealt a new injury blow after it was revealed Owen Hargreaves won’t play again this season, writes TONY BUGBY.
The 27-year-old midfield player has undergone surgery in America to cure a knee injury which has troubled him since his £17million move from Bayern Munich the summer before last.
Hargreaves underwent an operation on his right knee which was performed by renowned surgeon Richard Steadman at his clinic in Colorado.
And United revealed that Hargreaves will also have an operation on his left knee within the next three weeks to try to sort a further problem with that joint.
They say the initial operation has been a success but it will be nine months before he will be back in action.
The injury to Hargreaves leaves United’s midfield stretched as Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher are also absentees with knee troubles. Scholes might be back in action next month while Fletcher could return sooner.
Ryan Giggs is also missing with a groin strain sustained at Arsenal on Saturday.
