Date published: 04 December 2008
NORTHERN Thunder, containing five members of Oldham Netball Club, defeated Celtic Dragons 41-30 in Cardiff in the Co-operative Superleague.
The game will be shown on Sky Sports tonight.
The Oldham girls in action were Kerry Almond, Kate Smith, Emma Dovey, Charlotte Beenham and former England international Karen Greig.
Thunder led 8-5 at the end of a scrappy first quarter and 21-16 at half-time.
The third and fourth quarters followed a similar pattern, although patches of brilliance in attack from Thunder gave the crowd glimpses of their potential.
The player of the match award and a bouquet of flowers was presented to Thunder Goal Attack Charlotte Beenham.
Thunder are looking forward to their next home game, a televised showdown against Leeds in front of a capacity crowd at Castle Leisure Centre, Bury, on December 15.
