MANCHESTER Phoenix defenceman Dwight Parrish has had his number 17 shirt retired by the club, meaning it will not be used again in the future.
The unique decision was taken to honour the 36-year-old’s commitment to ice hockey in Manchester after he announced that he would be returning to the United States to take up a job offer outside the sport.
“The reception the fans gave me was very special and for the club to retire my shirt number is the ultimate accolade,” he said. “I’m honoured to be the first Phoenix player to have that happen.”
