Fitness tells for Thunder

NORTHERN Thunder beat Team Northumbria 47-40 in the Co-operative Netball Superleague, in Newcastle, in a a tense televised match.
The game kept a packed North-East sports hall on the edge of their seats until Thunder pulled away in the last 15 minutes to finish in front.
The first quarter was tied 11-11 after Thunder had steamed away to a 7-1 lead with a cracking start.
But it was in the second period that the visitors showed some true character after pulling back a five-goal deficit to end ahead by 24-23.
The third quarter could not separate the teams, with both scoring 11 goals to end with Thunder still ahead by 35-34.
With the match running goal for goal, Thunder dug deep and their superior fitness told in the end, with Karen Greig and Charlotte Beenham leading the attacking effort.
Thunder are in action again on Saturday, January 31 (4pm) when they host Team Bath, at The Castle Leisure Centre, Bury.
The Bath squad, whose director of overall sports coaching is Brian Ashton (ex-England RU coach) contains 10 full England internationals so it promises to be a fascinating test for Thunder.
