A LOCAL golfer is bidding to raise as much as £10,000 for charity by running a team competition — at the famous La Manga Club in Spain.
Pete Hilton (pictured), a member at Crompton and Royton, has moved to the resort this month to work in association with holiday and rental company Sky Resorts.
And he has already had a commitment from local businessmen back in Oldham to enter 20 teams to the Sky Resorts Classic that will be held over the three courses at La Manga Club in November.
“I know a lot of local golfers go out to Spain around that time of the year as the weather has gone at home and many I have spoken to realise that this is a great deal at a fantastic price and is helping to raise money for a good cause at the same time.”
The NSPCC will be the benefactor of the event — staged November 3-7 — which is being marketed at £625 per player in a four-man team.
That includes return flights from Manchester to Murcia, luxury coach transfer to the La Manga Club and four nights in a luxury apartment.
The competition will see three rounds played on the North, South and West courses with a gala dinner on the Friday including a top speaker and comedian.
“This really could be a big Oldham golfers’ party in Spain that week and we are looking to make it an annual event,” added Pete.
