A LONG round trip to Essex ended in disappointment for Oldham Netball Club in their National League encounter against Essex Open.
Oldham didn’t start well and made countless unforced errors in the early stages and an eager Essex side took full advantage as they rushed into a lead.
Krista Enziano was bought on as goal shooter for the third quarter and Oldham finally started playing to something like their best.
But the extra efforts required to pull level took their toll and they fell away in the final quarter as Essex Open remained composed to record a victory (45-35) and close the gap on Oldham in the league.
A tough trip to Chester, the leaders of the Northern League, saw an extraordinary effort from Oldham rewarded with nothing but a defeat.
The first-half saw goal defence Amy Minnell make several crucial interceptions, but it was the decision by Chester to bring on ex-England shooter Karen Fenlan at half-time which changed the complexion of the match and the home side eventually pulled away to win 55-38.
Oldham’s under-16’s travelled to Blackpool for their North West Regional League match and came away with a deserved 38-24 victory.
The under-14’s were also successful at Blackpool in their North West Regional League encounter. Charlotte Preston was easily the best player as the goal shooter scored 29 goals from 32 attempts to help Oldham to a 39–20 victory.
