Thunder pipped in derby
Date published: 13 March 2009
NORTHERN Thunder made the short journey to Leeds for their netball Superleague clash and came away disappointed after losing by a single point, going down 47-46.
The match was a sell-out and lived up to its billing as those lucky enough to get a ticket witnessed one of the most tightly-contested matches of the season.
The scores were tied after the first quarter, but Leeds Carnegie pulled away in the second after wayward shooting from Thunder.
A change in personnel for the second half seemed to help Thunder haul themselves back into the game as they closed the gap on the home side in the third period.
Going into the final quarter, Thunder were only three points behind and the teams went goal-for-goal.
But, as the clock ticked to full-time, Thunder missed a shot to level matters, meaning that Leeds had the derby-day bragging rights.
