SHAW boxer Darren Stubbs will be bidding to punch his way to a third title on Sunday.

The 37-year-old is aiming to land the vacant Central Area light-heavyweight crown when he fights Sheffield’s Carl Wild at Tara Sports and Leisure.

Stubbs, a member of Jack Doughty’s Shaw-based Tara stable, is a former holder of the British Masters and International Masters titles at light-heavyweight.

The exploits of Stubbs, a HGV lorry driver, are remarkable bearing in mind he was over 30 years of age when he first entered the ring.

Stubbs is hoping to land the title which would be a stepping stone towards his dream of boxing for the British title.

Oldham-based Mongolian Shinny Bayaar, another of Doughty’s stable, provides the chief support as he boxes Merthyr Tydfil’s Jason Thomas at flyweight.

Bayaar, who has been granted British citizenship, also yearns for the chance to have a crack at a major title.

Oldham’s Alan Winterbottom, a third Tara fighter, boxes Walsall’s Steve Gethin at featherweight.

Huddersfield’s Tyrone Nurse, who does sparring work at the Tara gym, puts his unbeaten record on the line against Reading’s Abra Riaz at light-welterweight.

In the two other bouts. Rochdale’s Anser Hussain boxes Mo Khaled, of Sheffield, at super-featherweight while Blackburn’s Dezzi Higginson fights Wolverhampton’s Carl Allen at light-welterweight.

The action gets under way at 2pm and tickets will be available on the door.
