Stuart leads the way for Royton

STUART Carroll was the first athlete home for Royton Road Runners in the Chester Half Marathon.
This popular event attracted more than 1,300 runners and Stuart crossed the line in 36th place with a time of 1 hour 22 minutes 43 seconds.
Other Royton results: Bernie Goodwin (1:26:45), Bruce Whittam (1:30:14), Rob Kelett (1:31:21), Debbie Shaw (1:40:08), David Smith (1:41:53) and Vicky Bramley (1:57:26).
On the same day, three members competed in the tough Windermere Marathon.
Bernie Cassidy (3:11:50) was the first Royton runner to finish followed by David Emanuel (3:17:58), which was five minutes quicker than last year and Colin Green recorded a time of (3:19:18).
Veteran runner Dave Phillips represented the club in the BUPA Manchester 10K road race and was the first athlete to finish out of 79 runners in the male over-65 category, crossing the line in (44:01). Sharon Emmott recorded a time of (46:25).
Liz Phillips clocked a personal best 58:42, followed by Melanie Cowen (1:02:35) and Anne Jones (1:03:37).
