OLDHAM cycling ace Chris Newton showed once again how versatile he is when he took second spot in the National 25-Mile Time Trial Championship in Norfolk last weekend.
An Olympic medallist and World Champion on the track, Newton is also an accomplished road racer, but chose to race against the clock in Sunday’s title race at Attleborough.
Newton has only ridden one 25-mile time trial this season, but clearly has the form to compete against the best. Having won the 25-mile title back in 1999, Newton has been on the podium five times since then in search of another gold.
“This makes a change for me after the track racing that takes up a lot of the year,” he said afterwards.
“I’m enjoying myself in the Rapha Condor team, we’ve showed we have strength in depth.”
The 35-year-old added may still be in contention for a spot at the 2012 Olympics in London, and said: “It is still on the cards that I will be there, that is my aim.”
