England 4-1 for Ashes glory
Date published: 19 August 2009
IT’S the moment of truth for England’s cricketers tomorrow when they take on Australia in the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Oval.
Appalling in defeat at Headingley last time, England have been written off going into this game despite being on level terms with their greatest rivals.
It takes a leap of faith to expect England to come out on top, but our boys have a history of bouncing back from a poor performance and 4-1 is a very fair price about them winning this Test and regaining the Ashes.
The Aussies are 13-8 to clinch the series, but the Oval pitch has been flat and batsman-friendly all summer so the draw at 5-4 is a worthy favourite.
ARSENAL have been slashed from 9-1 to 6s to win the Premier League crown after their 6-1 romp at Everton on Saturday.
Manchester City stay at 14-1 despite an impressive 2-0 win at Blackburn, but Liverpool are already on the drift to 5-1 following their 2-1 loss at Spurs.
Chelsea are 15-8 favourites, with Manchester United at 12-5.
JENSON Button continues to drift for the World F1 crown.
The Englishman, totally dominant in the first few races of the season, is 11-10 to hold off the opposition and clinch the title, but Mark Webber (11-4) and Sebastian Vettel (3-1) are dangerous rivals.
The season continues in Valencia this weekend with the European Grand Prix for which Lewis Hamilton is the 3-1 favourite, just ahead of Vettel (7-2).
Webber is 11-2, with Button on 8-1.
