Bayaar’s title glory
Date published: 26 October 2009
OLDHAM-based Mongolian fighter Shinny Bayaar claimed the British flyweight title after outboxing defending champion Chris Edwards over 12 rounds to take a majority decision at the Bolton Arena.
Bayaar, who brought a good following with him just months after becoming a British citizen, made a strong start to get on top of his opponent early on.
Edwards recovered in the middle rounds and a cut opened up above Bayaar's right eye, but the challenger upped his game to take a majority decision 117-112 and 115-113, with the other referee scoring it 115-113 for Edwards.
