The National Football Museum is to move from its Preston base to Manchester.
Museum trustees said the move to the Urbis centre would open up its prestigious collection to a much wider audience.
The museum at Deepdale Stadium attracts more than 100,000 visitors per year and is free to view.
It has the finest single collection of memorabilia in the world, including the ball from the 1966 World Cup final, Maradona’s shirt from the “Hand of God” game between England and Argentina.
