Wake-up call for Phoenix
Date published: 23 November 2009
ICE HOCKEY: Manchester Phoenix bounced back from an embarrassing defeat in Romford to beat Milton Keynes and remain on top of the English Premier League.
An appalling 8-3 loss at bottom-of-the-table Raiders on Saturday was overturned in an exciting 3-1 win against the Lightning last night.
Defensive lapses and poor discipline handed Romford the impetus, and goals from Jaakko Hagelberg, Adam Walker and Ed Courtenay could not disguise just how bad Tony Hand's side were.
Although Milton Keynes employed the same tough style yesterday, Manchester proved they could stand up to the rough stuff and goals from Robert Lachowicz, Hagelberg and Courtenay gave Phoenix victory.
