LEADING referee Mark Clattenburg has found himself under fire from all sides after his decision to send off Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy at the Reebok Stadium.
Bellamy was dismissed in the second half for two yellow cards, the crucial one following a challenge by Bolton’s Paul Robinson in Saturday’s thrilling 3–3 draw.
City manager Mark Hughes said the decision was “laughable”, while Bolton boss Gary Megson and Bellamy’s team–mate Micah Richards called it “harsh”.
Despite being down to 10 men, City secured a point thank to Carlos Tevez’s second goal of the game 13 minutes from time.
In a rousing encounter Bolton took the lead three times with Ivan Klasnic also scoring a brace while Gary Cahill also contributed a superb strike. City’s other goal came from Richards.
Asked if there should be a procedure where clubs could appeal against yellow cards, Hughes said: “It is not in place and that is where we are with it.
Tevez is now on a roll after scoring four goals in three games and Hughes said: “I thought Carlos was outstanding. He led from the front.
“He is getting to a level of fitness that allows him to have a big impact on games. I was pleased for him. His performance typified what we had to go through.”
