Old Trafford will rock, says Ferguson

SIR Alex Ferguson is confident Manchester United’s in-fighting anti–Glazer factions will set aside their grievances to cheer his side to victory against AC Milan at Old Trafford tonight.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust has recorded huge rises in membership, beyond 120,000, with the green and gold scarves now a notable feature of Red Devils’ matches.

Ferguson knows they will be in evidence again this evening, as United bid to defend a 3–2 first–leg lead and reach the Champions League quarter–finals for the fourth season running.

“Old Trafford will be rocking and I am sure whether they are wearing the traditional red and white or the protest green and gold scarves the supporters will be united and speaking with one voice to get us safely through,” he said.

Though Wes Brown, Anderson, Owen, Carrick and likley Ryan Giggs will be sidelined, Ferguson has had one vit of good news. Wayne Rooney is expected to play after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of Saturday’s win at Wolves.

United leapfrog Chelsea in Premier League betting
MANCHESTER United are the new favourites to win the Premier League, following their 1-0 win at Wolves on Saturday.

Though the team has been functional rather than impressive in recent weeks, their ability to grind out results has seen them cut to 6-4, ahead of Chelsea (13-8).

But Arsenal have the easiest run-in of the three and can be backed at 11-4 so, for the first time in years, the title race might go right down to the wire.

The Reds are 1-12 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League and 8-11 to win tonight’s game. With three away goals in the bank, United should progress without too much trouble.
