Film guide for future coaches
Date published: 17 March 2010

COACH Mike Molloy is interviewed for the film at Saddleworth Sports Centre.
TRAINING: LIGHTS, camera, action. A film crew descended on Saddleworth Sports Centre to help promote coaching.
Organised by Sportscoach UK, it is aimed at parents or carers who are interested in becoming coaches but don’t know how to begin.
Many local clubs were involved in the making of the film, with sports such as football, netball, cricket and rounders all featured.
Paul Connolly, of Sports Coach UK, said: “Currently around 20-per-cent of the coach population is derived from parents or carers, but there is no fundamental guide available to introduce coaching to such an audience.
“Nothing on You-Tube or through the Google search is of any real use.
“Parents therefore need a product which is simple to understand and easy to follow, without the sports jargon.”
Connolly added that coaches are predominantly male, so it is important to appeal to the opposite sex.
The 15-minute film will be released on the Sportscoach UK website (www.sportscoachuk.org) at the end of the month, with links to help parents or carers get started in their pursuit of becoming a coach
