Emersic proves Phoenix’s undoing again
Date published: 12 April 2010
ICE HOCKEY: Slough Jets’ Blaz Emersic has been a thorn in the side for Manchester Phoenix in the English Premier League all season.
In the six games between the two, he has helped his side claim all but one.
And in their latest meeting - the EPL play-off semi-finals - he proved the eventual game winner again in a classic battle.
Youthful Manchester had the better of their nemesis for long periods but they couldn’t find the killer touch to make their dominance pay until James Neil put them ahead.
However, Slava Koulikov scored a superb equaliser 47 seconds later and, early in the third period, Emersic netted the winner.
Slough beat Guildford Flames 2-1 in yesterday’s final with a controversial penalty-shot goal in overtime from Emersic.
