LOCAL golfer Rachel Connor was hoping to carry on her fine form in the Texas Hill Country Classic which got under way today.
The 19-year-old, from Royton, produced her best display of the season so far when she finished tied 15th in the Historic Brownsville Open, the fourth event on the Duramed Futures Tour calendar.
Based in Florida, Connor picked up $1,100 for her efforts after posting rounds of 73, 69 and 71 for a level par total of 213, four shots behind winner Sophie Jang, of South Korea.
She said: “It felt great to be in contention and I’m really pleased that I am starting to show the sort of form that took me to the top of the amateur game back home.
“The standard of golf over here is very high and everyone on the tour is capable of shooting low scores.”
The result in San Antonio lifted Connor 16 places to 58th in the order of merit with $2, 213.
She returns home next week to take part in a 72-hole charity event at Crompton and Royton on May 14 in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Link 4 Pink and Skin Deep Foundation.
