CYCLING: CHADDERTON professional cyclist Chris Newton claimed the biggest win of his season so far when he raced to glory in the prestigious Lincoln Grand Prix, part of the National Premier Calendar Series.
The second time Newton has won the race, he crossed the line clear of breakaway rival Philip Lavery, of Team Ireland, and Sigma Sport RT rider Simon Richardson.
An Olympic medallist on the track, Newton is a top notch road-rider as well, and used all his tactical experience to secure the win with the help of his team-mates on the Rapha Condor-Sharp squad.
“This is a lovely race to win,” he said. “I have been training hard recently, keeping myself to myself and doing the job.
“I love riding my bike as much as ever and we have a good team. This year, we went out there to attack the race and I was in a small break early on, and then I got in a three-rider break which stayed away.
“I have ridden this race enough times to know how to stay near the front and sometimes, like on this occasion, it works really well and sometimes it doesn’t.”
