BOXING: NORTHSIDE boxer Thomas Stubbs is in France training with the Great Britain team in preparation for the European Championships in Moscow.

Stubbs’ selection for the 12-man party came hot on the heels of his third ABA title victory, which saw him beat Ben Fowl in the senior category.

Great Britain Boxing’s performance director, Rob McCracken, said: “The GB Boxing squad has performed very well this year and has benefited from being exposed to a high standard of international competition.

“We are building towards the 2012 Olympics and this championship will provide us with a good indication of where we are in that process.”

The European Championships run from June 4 to 13 and Stubbs is in good company.

The Chadderton ace is joined in the squad by Beijing Olympians Bradley Saunders and Khalid Yafai, as well as fellow ABA title holder Antony Ogogo.
