Oldham club romps home to big victory

SWIMMING: OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club earned an emphatic win in the Central Lancashire Junior Jubilee League.
They overcame rivals Darwen, Chadderton and Ashton-under-Lyne in the process.
Oldham won 32 of the 42 events at Darwen Leisure Centre, with a final score of Oldham 149, Ashton 112, Chadderton 77 and Darwen 73.
The 13 years and under girls took full honours, with Nicola Farrell winning the 50 metre backstroke and freestyle and Caitlin Wareing victorious in the breaststroke and butterfly.
Kyle Clegg came first in the 50m breaststroke. Sam Marsden won the backstroke and was second in the butterfly.
In the 12 and under, Olivia Askew came first in the 50m breaststroke and butterfly while Sara Loft triumphed in the freestyle and backstroke.
Michael Entwistle enjoyed wins in the 50m freestyle and backstroke, with Kyle Clegg coming second in the butterfly and breaststroke events.
Debutant Emma-Lee Poole topped the 11 years and under 50m freestyle and butterfly and Amy Cunningham won the backstroke.
Daniel Fearnley bagged the 50m butterfly and freestyle before Henry Coverley clinched the backstroke and finished runner-up in breaststroke.
In the under-10s, Olivia Green was first in the 25m freestyle and butterfly, as was Rebecca Loft in the backstroke and Max Flanagan in the 25m butterfyly.
Loft also picked up a second-place finish in the breaststroke.
Oldham completely dominated the relay events.
The 13 years and under teams of Caitlin Wareing, Sara Loft, Nicola Farrell and Olivia Askew together with the boys team of Sammy Marsden, Kyle Clegg, Michael Entwistle and Heyden Saville also won their respective medley and freestyle events.
The girls 11 years and under team of Olivia Green, Amy Cunningham, Emma-Lee Poole and Rebecca Loft and boys team Max Flanagan, Henry Coverley, Jamie Marsden and Daniel Fearnley won their freestyle and medley relay races.
The final events were the Cannon freestyle relays comprising one swimmer from each of the age groups.
The girls’ team of Olivia Green, Amy Cunningham, Olivia Askew and Nicola Farrell stormed home to victory with Jamie Marsden, Daniel Fearnley, Kyle Clegg and Sam Marsden also claiming the win for the boys.
