SPORTS BETTING:
ENGLAND’S ineptitude in the World Cup has served to highlight the excellence of other teams and has illustrated just how far we are from competing at the very highest level.
Let’s be honest, we are not in the same class as teams like Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany and Holland.
So quotes of around 12-1 for our boys to win in 2014 are mean in the extreme.
To be honest, I would not back England at double that price for countless reasons, the main one being that the Premier League and the FA will continue to pull in different directions and our national team is bound to suffer.
Anyway, back to the current competition and a bet we really should be having.
It’s taken me a while to be convinced, but now I am a firm believer that Brazil will be crowned champions yet again.
A fluent attacking side with a rock-solid defence, Brazil will take the world of beating. And 5-2 is a pretty generous price given their profile.
Spain are 3-1 and have the best of the draw, while Argentina (9-2), Germany (15-2) and Holland (15-2) will each fancy their chances.
Uruguay (18-1), Ghana (40-1) and Paraguay (50-1) don’t look good enough.
Our choice for the Golden Boot winner, Brazil’s Luis Fabiano, has hit the target three times and, as he is playing for the side most likely to win the tournament, our original bet of 12-1 is looking pretty good.
Fabiano is down to 9-2 to be top goal scorer behind Spain’s David Villa (2-1) and Argentina’s Gonzalo Higuain (11-4), both of whom have four goals.
OUR cricketers held a 3-0 lead going into the fourth of five ODIs against the Aussies today and I hope you were on the recommended 6-4 about them winning the series.
There has been a real power shift in England-Australia confrontations in the last year or so, but I have to admit that the Aussies are deserved favourites to regain the Ashes Down Under this winter.
Home advantage is huge and Australia, their supporters and Press will pile tremendous pressure on our lads.
Australia are 8-13 to win on home soil, with England 3-1 and a drawn series 5-1.
I recommended England at a best-priced 9-2 some time ago, but feel the current odds are about right.
RECOMMENDATION: Brazil to win World Cup, 5-2 (general).
