Notable scalp for Wild
Date published: 14 July 2010
LOCAL snooker player Michael Wild recorded a fine win in the second Players’ Tour Championship event.
The Moorside cueman defeated world number 42 Adrian Gunnell, from Telford, 4-2 at the Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
But Wild’s hopes of reaching round three were dashed by Stoke-on-Trent’s Dave Harold.
Harold, ranked 19th in the world, ended Wild’s interest in the competition by virtue of a 4-2 scoreline.
Wild, who helped the Oldham Snooker Academy to the Manchester League title last season, beat Mark Miller (Urmston) in round one.
The Players’ Tour Championship consists of 12 non-televised events.
It features 128 players, including 96 professionals and 32 amateurs, with a qualifier for amateurs should it be oversubscribed.
The final will feature the top 24 players on the money list, but they must have played at least six events.
Each of the 12 winners picks up £10,000, with the overall champion collecting a cool £60,000.
Six of the events are being staged in Sheffield and the other half-a-dozen will be held around the world, including four in Germany.
