SPORTING all-rounder . . . PE teacher Katy Moore.
THE school summer holidays couldn’t have come at a better time for PE teacher Katy Moore as she prepares for the Triathlon Olympic Distance World Championships in Budapest.
Moore (28), who grew up in Chadderton, needs all the training time she can get ahead of an event which represents a “step into the unknown”.
She takes part in the sprint event, which comprises of a 750-metre swim, 20 kilometres on the bike and a 5k run, just for good measure.
She said: “It’s a good job the summer holidays came along when they did because it allows me to train six days a week.
“I’m tending to run in the morning and swim in the evening as much as I possibly can.”
Moore was one of only 20 competitors to make it through to the championships at a qualifying event in Emberton, Buckinghamshire.
The sprint competition takes place on September 11.
She’s always been a keen swimmer — Moore was a member of Chadderton Swimming Club — but only embraced the triathlon two years ago.
“I love swimming, I’ve done spinning classes at the gym, and I’ve done half marathons, but it took a long time for me to combine the three by becoming a triathlete,” she added.
“I watched my boyfriend in an event a couple of years ago and decided to give it a try, and rest, as they say, is history.
“Budapest will be a brand new experience for me though, it’s a step into the unknown but one I’m looking forward to.”
