Dream debut for fearless Heffron

BOXING: MARK Heffron plucked up some Dutch courage to earn victory on his professional debut.
The welterweight flew out to the Netherlands to face Torsten Roof of Germany, who succumbed to a powerful right hook in the second round.
Heffron (18), the former Northside ABC and Boarshaw club member, had been due to fight Terry Adams at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
But red tape surrounding Adams’ licence led to a late switch.
Joe Gallagher, Heffron’s trainer, said: “Mark performed very well, especially when you consider it was his first ever overseas bout.
“I told him to use the first round to just size up his opponent, get a feel for it, which he did.
“He took to it like a duck to water, there was no stopping him in the second round.
“Roof was up on the ropes towards the end, and he was never going to get back up after that right hook.”
Roof enjoyed the vast majority of support from the crowd at the show in Heerlen, but the atmosphere was not an issue for Heffron.
