GARY Neville claims Manchester City are genuine title challengers this season.

Anyone can see we are going to be there or thereabouts come the end of the campaign, and not just because we are currently second in the table.

We have invested heavily in the squad and the players we have brought in are of the highest standard.

It is fairly obvious that we are a threat in the race for the title.

We travel to Blackpool on Sunday for what is sure to be a difficult test.

Their manager, Ian Holloway, has done a great job, leading them to victories at Newcastle United and Liverpool already.

He has got his players wound up for the challenge of playing in the Barclays Premier League.

It should be a good atmosphere at Bloomfield Road.

SCOTLAND have come in for some stick after playing an unconventional 4-6-0 formation in the 1-0 defeat to the Czech Republic.

To be fair to manager Craig Levein, I would not read too much into the formation on paper because he did have strikers on the pitch, but they were in a more withdrawn role in order to help out the defenders.

They are struggling at the moment so it is easy to forget that Scotland have had some phenomenal teams and players over the years.

The likes of Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish were fantastic.

I WAS sad to hear that Paul Gascoigne was arrested for drink-driving, just days after turning down the position of manager at Garforth Town.

Having met Gazza a few times, I can honestly say he is the most generous and funny lad anyone could wish to come across.

There is still a lot of goodwill towards him in football circles because he was an incredible player, and is still a great guy.

He went down the wrong path and has had a lot of turmoil in his personal life.

Everyone just wants to see him get help, and get better.
