CHRONICLE racing correspondent Keith McHugh finished third in the latest £6,000 Racing Post naps table, sponsored by Coral.

Over 50 tipsters from national and regional newspapers took part.

Our man ended the Flat racing season on exactly plus £50 to a £1 stake.

He selected 72 winning naps from 169 selections and in previous years his total would have been more than enough to land the top prize.

But an amazing final week saw him overtaken by the Racing and Football Outlook and Nottingham Evening Post, whose experts found 40-1 and 20-1 winning naps.

McHugh, the 2005 jumps naps table champion, has been second twice in the Racing Post competition and now also third twice. He wins £500.
