Bayaar loses title

BOXING:

SHINNY Bayaar lost his British flyweight title to Paul Edwards in Belfast last night after an accidental clash of heads in the first round.

The Tara boxer sustained a nasty cut and the bout was halted on doctor’s advice.

British Boxing Board of Control rules stipulate that under those circumstances, the belt changes hands.

Bayaar can count himself unlucky, though, because from January 1, 2011, the guidelines will change and such incidents will be scored a no-contest.

Bayaar’s trainer Jack Doughty said: “It was gutting, but as soon as Shinny saw how bad the injury was in the mirror, he admitted the doctor made the right decision.

“Obviously it is a shame this happened before the rule change, but there will be a rematch in the New Year.

“As soon as Shinny is ready, Gary Ford (assistant trainer) and myself will start preparing him for the fight.”
