Carnegie pin faith in Bloomfield

NETBALL: OLDHAM’S Danielle Bloomfield insists she is more than ready to be the old head on young shoulders in 2011 as she looks to fire Leeds Carnegie into the Netball Superleague play-offs.

The former Oldham Netball Club player is plying her trade with the Superleague franchise while studying physical education at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Carnegie finished the 2010 season fifth in the league table with 15 points — just one spot outside the coveted top four that enter the end-of-season play-off shake up.

And despite on paper being one of the younger names in the squad Bloomfield (21) is

revelling in her heightened responsibilities this term.

“I can’t wait for the season to start and I think everyone in the team is the same,” said Bloomfield.

“We had quite a young squad last year and we were disappointed to miss out on the play-offs. But I think a year on with the experience that we have we are in good shape to have a good season.

She has been involved in the England set-up at under-19 and under-21 level and while insisting club comes first for now, is adamant she won’t be giving up on forcing her way into the international arena.
