BOXING: UNBEATEN Ronnie Heffron roars back into the ring next month on the undercard of Tony Bellew versus Ovill McKenzie at Bethnal Green’s York Hall.
Heffron (20), one of the leading lights in Anthony Farnell’s stable, has won all four bouts since turning professional and capped off 2010 in fine style by knocking out Wayne Downing after just 45 seconds in Liverpool.
He has yet to find an opponent for the Frank Warren Promotions event on Saturday, February 19, but Farnell insists that doesn’t faze his young charge.
“Ronnie is just concentrating on himself, by training well and being ready for whoever he comes up against,” said Farnell.
“When you are on the undercard you sometimes don’t find an opponent until a few days before the fight.
“Ronnie is determined to make it five wins in a row.
“He has been sparring with Frankie Gavin, and we will be heading down to London next week to do more gym work.”
While some boxers have to hit the ground running after the excesses of Christmas and New Year, Farnell has not had any sleepless nights over Heffron.
He added: “Ronnie is tee-total, so he is a breeze to deal with in that respect.
“When you are young you want to go out with your mates, but Ronnie manages to do that without having a drink.
“He wants success so badly, nothing can get in his way.”
Sparring partner Gavin, the 2007 World Amateur champion, is on the card, as is Jamie Cox.
Bellew puts his Commonwealth light-heavyweight crown on the line against McKenzie.
They are joined on the bill by Larry Olubamiwo and John McDermott, who go head-to-head for the Southern Area Heavyweight Championship.
Vinny Mitchell, Bradley Skeete, Ahmet Patterson, Billy Morgan and Freddie 'Luke' Turner complete the line-up.
