Watson’s sights on British crown

BOXING: LONDON is calling Commonwealth light-middleweight belt holder Craig Watson tomorrow.
The Northside star (28) faces John O’Donnell at Wembley Arena in a bid for the vacant British welterweight crown.
And the pair have history — when they met in 2009 at Bethnall Green’s York Hall, Oldham-born Watson lost following a contentious split decision.
It cost Watson the Commonwealth welterweight title, and has been a thorn in his side ever since.
After bouncing back with the light-middleweight victory over Badru Lusambya last year, he can now look forward to a crack at revenge.
ANTHONY Farnell says one of his brightest prospects, Oldham’s Ronnie Heffron, will not take Kevin McCauley lightly tomorrow in their York Hall bout.
Heffron (20) goes for his fifth straight professional triumph against journeyman McCauley, who has lost 21 times in 33 outings.
But Farnell said: “While Ronnie is confident, there is no complacency whatsoever because you cannot go into the ring with that attitude.
“Ronnie just has to concentrate on himself and if he does that, I am sure McCauley will struggle to cope.”
