Giggs ignores milestone talk

WHETHER or not he plays at Chelsea tonight, and whether or not Manchester United win, this will still be a significant week in the life of Ryan Giggs.

Tomorrow will mark 20 years exactly since Giggs made his debut for the club with whom he has won 11 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and countless other trophies, and made 862 appearances.

"I don't think about the titles I've won," he said.

"Losing the title by one point last year stayed with me.”

Giggs has signed another contract which, injury permitting, will see him pass 900 appearances, another record Giggs concedes is unlikely to be broken, like most of his others.

But there is one man who will almost certainly be there first, the man Giggs is adamant will go on a lot longer than him – Sir Alex Ferguson.

"I can't see the gaffer leaving in the near future." said Giggs.

United are again without defenders Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans tonight.

Fernando Torres is battling Didier Drogba for a place in the champions’ line-up.

FORMER Premier League referee Graham Poll believes there was never any prospect of Wayne Rooney facing retrospective punishment for elbowing Wigan's James McCarthy.

The Manchester United striker was seen on television replays swiping McCarthy on the back of his head.

Referee Mark Clattenburg awarded a free–kick but did not issue a card.
Poll said: "Referees are encouraged not to re–referee incidents, because it's FIFA's belief that shouldn't happen."
