Marcin Biabloblocki is premarure in his celebration as the win went to black-shirted Rob Partidge.
IN a dramatic climax to round six of the Halfords Tour Series, Marcin Biabloblocki celebrated victory — only to be beaten in a photo-finish by Endura Racing star Rob Partridge.
Biabloblocki, of Motorpoint Pro Cycling, raised his arm in the air as he crossed the line following the hour-long contest — the first time the event has come to Oldham.
But after 10 minutes of careful deliberation, officials decided Partridge pipped him at the post.
In each leg, the crowd are asked by organisers to support a nominated team in order to give the day an edge — and Oldham’s adopted favourites, Team Raleigh, were well represented. Liam Holohan clinched a podium place by finishing third.
It was to be Endura’s day, as they also claimed top spot in the team award, taking 10 points in the process.
Partridge’s team-mate Ian Wilkinson claimed seventh place.
They narrowed the gap on leaders Rapha Condor Sharp to just seven points, with two rounds remaining.
Rapha’s Dean Downing, Ed Clancy and Dean Windsor came fifth, sixth and ninth respectively.
Partridge said: “As happy as I am to have come first, the main thing is the team victory as it is our first of the series and will do wonders for morale.
“We are an aggressive team and we need to perform in that way, to show our rivals what we can do.
“I feel we have done that in Oldham and there is now a platform on which we can build.
“The course was absolutely perfect for our style because two-thirds of it was uphill, which is just how we like it.
“The crowd got us going with their noise, which always helps. I really enjoyed the occasion.”
Organiser Peter Hodges echoed Partridge’s sentiments and believes Oldham’s Halfords Tour Series debut will go down as a success.
He said: “The event could not have gone better, we did not have any problems whatsoever and all the vibes from the teams and those who came along to watch were all positive.
“It would be nice to come back next year. Obviously discussions have to take place much nearer the time, but I have not seen anything here to put me off a return.
“If Oldham wants us, we would love to come back.”
