Grant eyes Royal appointment

GOLF: GRANT Hamerton heads to Kent next week as he attempts to book his place at the Open Championship.
He has never qualified for the third major of the season, which this year is being staged at Royal St George’s, starting on July 14.
With Brookdale boss Tony Capello on the bag, Hamerton got through the regional round at Clitheroe in style, with a hole in one.
The Pike-Fold-attached professional hit an eight iron shot on to the fifth green, which then spun back into the cup — and he didn’t even see it!
Hamerton fired a level par 72 to move a step closer to taking his place alongside the likes of recent US Open winner Rory McIlroy and world number one Luke Donald.
The 38-year-old, who was a member of the European Tour for three seasons, has yet to play in the Open Championship despite reaching the final qualifying stage on numerous occasions.
