BOXING:
OLDHAM fighter Ronnie Heffron can move a step closer to setting up his first professional title fight with victory over Barrie Jones at the Liverpool Echo Arena tomorrow night.
The 20-year-old welterweight has earned a ringing endorsement from promoter Frank Warren, who believes the ‘Razor’ is on the brink of big things.
Warren has gone on record as saying a sixth successive triumph would open doors for Heffron, with everything pointing towards a title bout at the end of the year.
His Failsworth-based trainer, Anthony Farnell, believes his prodigy is in the best shape of his career.
He said: “Ronnie is ready to produce a big performance in Liverpool. He looks unbelievable in the gym.
“The workouts with Frankie Gavin in training have been priceless because he is a southpaw like Jones. Now he has to go out and reward everyone’s faith in him.”
