Alex Walker: the Shaw teenager’s hopes of InterSteps Championship glory are still very much alive.
MOTOR SPORT: OLDHAM’S Alex Walker earned two more podium finishes when the InterSteps Championship made its way to Donington Park.
The 16-year-old Fortec Motorsport driver claimed fourth place in race one despite torrential rain.
After starting on pole, Walker dropped back to seventh but managed to battle back up the order.
The next race saw him clinch second spot, and in race three a last-gasp overtake at the expense of team-mate Ed Jones secured third position.
Walker said: “I think it’s fair to say Donington is not one of my stronger tracks, but we scored decent points in each of the three races and the championship is still very much alive.
“I lost out at the start of race one and the conditions were pretty bad with the car aquaplaning going down the hill to the Old Hairpin, so it was tough just to keep the car on the track.
“Then in the other two races I had good pace and was able to get a couple of podiums so that's positive from a championship point of view.
“It would have been ideal to have come back with a win, but it just wasn’t to be, so I’ll be out to do all I can to make up for it at Thruxton.
“There’s still work to be done in the meantime, though, and I’ll be doing everything I can to keep improving.”
The InterSteps Championship heads to Thruxton, Hampshire for rounds 12, 13 and 14 on August 13 and 14.
