Alex Walker: ready for Thruxton
MOTOR RACING: OLDHAM racer Alex Walker kept his championship campaign alive by scoring fifth, fourth and third place finishes as the InterSteps Championship landed at Thruxton, Hampshire.
The 16-year-old, of Fortec Motorsport, remains second, 23 points behind team-mate Jake Dennis.
Walker started fifth on the grid for race one and made a good start, reaching third by the end of the opening lap.
He held that position for the opening stages of the race but dropped back to eventually cross in fifth.
Race two action saw Walker start in fourth — a position he clung on to for the entire contest.
Starting from the same spot for the final race, he picked up the pace and immediately moved up to third.
He opened up a 20-second gap between himself and the chasing pack to bag his tenth podium finish of the campaign.
Walker said: "It wasn't my best weekend and we didn't come away with what we set out to get so it's a bit frustrating in that sense.
“But we scored more good points in each of the three races and ended the weekend with a podium, so it wasn't a disaster and the Fortec guys have done a great job all weekend as always.
"The track is very abrasive and the tyres would go off after only a couple of laps but we have studied the data and I have learned a few things which I can take with me to Brands.
"There are only six races left over the remaining two meetings this season so it’s absolutely critical to push with everything we have."
Rounds 15, 16 and 17 of the InterSteps Championship will be hosted by Brands Hatch (Indy), Kent for the penultimate meeting of the season on August 28 and 29.
