Stefan’s joy at City first

I WAS delighted to see Stefan Savic score his first goal for Manchester City in our 4-0 win at Blackburn.

The centre-half is an absolutely cracking lad and it will have done his confidence no harm at all.

He is not one for showing his emotions, but I am sure Stefan was buzzing after the win, which kept us level on points with United at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

He rose to head home Samir Nasri’s corner late on, and it was nice to see us score from a set-piece. It is not something we do on a regular basis, although Micah Richards has come close on a couple of occasions this term.

Micah is just under six-foot tall but has one heck of a leap in his locker, which I am sure is going to be a useful weapon as the campaign goes on and we challenge in different competitions.

Mario Balotelli, Nasri and Adam Johnson also netted in a much-changed side from the one which lost 2-0 at Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage.

Micah and Gareth Barry were given a rare break from the action — they have been involved in virtually every match so far this term and I am sure they appreciated the rest.

Overall it was a good team performance and after Johnson’s fantastic opener early in the second half, I don’t think the outcome was ever in doubt.

Now we have an international break, although my time will still be filled.

We have a reserves game at Hyde FC’S Ewen Fields on Thursday, so we will be preparing the kits for that.

Hopefully our England contingent can make a good impression in Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro — they will be up against the aforementioned Stefan Savic — fingers crossed he has got his goalscoring exploits out of his system!

As for the well-publicised Carlos Tevez situation, it would be inappropriate for me to comment during the club’s investigation into any alleged misconduct during the Bayern Munich clash and the forward’s version of events.
