BRING IT ON: Darren Stubbs cannot wait for tomorrow night’s clash with Tony Dodson.
Boxing: SHAW’S Darren Stubbs looks to conquer the world tomorrow when he enters the lion’s den to face scouser Tony Dodson.
Stubbs, who turns 40 next week, takes on Dodson (29) for the IBO International light-heavyweight belt at the Greenbank Stadium in Liverpool.
Not that he is fazed by fighting for a world title against a man who lives within walking distance of the venue.
“I love all that,” he said. “I have beaten people in their own back yard before.
“There wasn’t going to be any trash talk, but then Dodson went on YouTube discussing the fight after me.
“You should never talk or even think about anything other than your next fight. I suppose it is good if he is underestimating me. I can’t wait to get in there.”
It will be Stubbs’ first outing since his bruising defeat at the hands of Bob Ajisafe at Oldham Sports Centre in July, and he feels he is in better shape this time around.
“I have trained for something like 17 weeks and I am ripped and raring to go,” he added.
“Training has been great. Even though I turn 40 next week I haven’t lost my appetite for the sport at all.
“As far as I am concerned it is an honour to be able to box.
“Win, lose or draw I genuinely hope it is a good fight and I can do myself justice in front of my family and friends, and the fans who are making the journey to Liverpool.”
HOLLINWOOD’S Marvin Greaves makes his professional debut tomorrow night when he fights Kristian Laight at Oldham Sports Centre.
Orthodox Greaves (29) faces his southpaw rival at lightweight level on the undercard of Martin Grainger v Paul Morris, who battle it out for the vacant British Master title.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets cost between £30 and £50 at the venue.
